Meet Rebecca Laws

My name is Rebecca Laws. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with Master’s Degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology and Certificates in Substance Abuse Counseling and Medical Transcription.

Prior to specializing in trauma, I learned the value of society working in macro and micro-systems.  My background in sociology contributed to my style of therapy.  That being said, I value all the dynamics that contribute to who we are and who we see the world. Of particular influence on people, is the family system, generally setting the stage for one’s part in the play of life.

As a trauma therapist, I have specializations in various modalities to assist individuals with diverse backgrounds.  I am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant who specializes in treating survivors of abuse, Complex PTSD, medical/disability trauma, and those with single trauma incidents.  I have been trained in Internal Family Systems and Lifespan Integration Levels 1 and 2.

Rebecca Laws, LCMHC, MS

Therapeutic Techniques

Through providing comprehensive care I draw from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Experiential, Psychoanalytic, Ego-state therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused therapy, Adlerian interventions, and EMDR Consultation for clinicians who have completed EMDR Basic training, including the initial consultation hours required for that.

Career History

Prior to working as a trauma therapist, I was a licensed substance use disorder counselor.  That time period helped me advance in the area of motivational interviewing skills, something I have continued to regularly integrate within my practice. Because my initial Master’s Degree was in Rehabilitation Counseling I gained experience working in University Disability Centers and Utah State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.

Interests and Skills

I consider therapy largely an art form.  Thus, it aligns well with two of my favorite hobbies: music and art. I enjoy adding exercise such as running, swimming, ballroom and swing dancing to my life. Thus, I recognize the value of balance and healthy self-care practices.  As part of my personal goal to stay balanced by participating in the above activities, I also thrive through integrating spirituality while staying up-to-date with my education and clinical skills.  Most important, I treasure time with my family, and the connections we can build with each other.
